GOVT MUST ADDRESS ‘SYSTEMIC’ BRITISH COLLUSION – MacLOCHLAINN

first_imgSinn Féin TD Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says the government has a moral and constitutional responsibility to address the ‘brutal legacy’ of the British Government’s collusion policy.Padraig Mac Lochlainn TDThe Inishowen TD was speaking in the Dáil following Monday’s RTE’s Primetime documentary on collusion between the British Government and the security forces.Deputy Mac Lochlainn said “For families who have been victims of collusion, the past 12 months have been very difficult. They have had long court battles, and the truth is finally starting to come out. Recent publications and documentaries have exposed the scale of collusion between British State forces and unionist paramilitaries. “There was much debate on Monday night during the PrimeTime documentary on whether collusion was in fact ‘systemic’. Let us be clear. There is no doubt that collusion was systemic.“Collusion was a deliberate policy that was designed to use unionist paramilitaries as a method of killing Irish citizens or, indeed, anyone who got in their way — those in opposition to the state. There was a particular focus on Irish republicans and nationalists.”He added that he wanted to reiterate what his Sinn Féin colleagues in the Assembly said on Monday in paying tribute to the families who suffered as a result of this collusion. The relentless work of these families and advocacy groups to expose the extent of the collusion and the subsequent cover ups is tremendous, he said. “In particular, I would like to draw attention to the work of Eddie Fullerton’s family. Eddie was a victim of collusion between the British state and the UDA. The Fullerton family has demonstrated remarkable courage and huge dignity.“Despite the deep hurt caused to the family by the events that occurred and the dismissive attitudes of state authorities during that period, they have been relentless in their campaign for the truth.“The Irish Government now has a moral and constitutional responsibility to finally and fully address the brutal legacy of the British Government’s collusion policy.”GOVT MUST ADDRESS ‘SYSTEMIC’ BRITISH COLLUSION – MacLOCHLAINN was last modified: June 18th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:CollusionDeputy Padraig MacLochlainnPrimetimeRTElast_img read more

Tlale returns to wow New York

Now, on 5 September, he presents his 2014 winter collection. Before flying out, the award-winning designer offered a sneak peek of his collection, which consists of 28 pieces. It is a women’s collection, in which they are wrapped in silk brocade, silk organza, leather, woollens, and podesua or peau de soie.“The inspiration comes from the 1950s, and although it is not hardcore African, it has new-age Ndebele geometrics. It is epitomised by a line of lightning,” he explains. Colours range from bubble gummy, mint, and coral, to grey and lemon, capturing a “midday sun ray”.“There is a lot of craftsmanship, with beadwork,” he adds. “The silhouette is for the office, but also the red carpet with pencil skirts, beautiful shorts, and box-pleat, knee-length skirts, with layers. There’ll be black couture dresses, with beadwork. It will make women feel sexy.”But there will also be fun pieces, with the theme of “a new woman in town”. “She is edgy, powerful, very discerning, and likes the beautiful things. She is not apologetic but outstanding.” He adds that “as a brand I have been welcomed in New York. I must be doing something right!”Launch in 2003Tlale launched his brand 10 years ago in 2003 when he won the Elle New Talent competition, which was followed by The Sunday Times’ Best Designer Award. In 2005, he was appointed the head designer for Carducci Women by the House of Monatic Group in Cape Town. In 2007, he was one of four young South African designers chosen to present their couture collection at the Paris Couture week. The following year he was voted the most stylish designer at the South African Style Awards, at the same time was voted South Africa’s Star Designer of the Year. He was nominated for the Mercedes Benz Fashion and Art Awards, and was invited to judge the Elle New Talent competition, where his journey had begun five years beforehand. That year was special for other reasons: he designed a couture masterpiece for British super model Jordan Dunn for the closing show of the Virgin Mobile Cape Town Fashion Week, and he was chosen as ambassador for the Change-4-Ever campaign, which alleviates poverty in Southern Africa. He launched a Green Collection for the voluptuous women of Mzansi, including the likes of Judith Sephuma, Lebo Mashile, KG Moeketsi and Anele Mdoda. The next year marked a turning point for the Tlale brand when he won the Designer of the Year Award after showcasing his debut spring/summer 2010 ready-to-wear collection at the Africa Fashion Week Awards, hosted by the South Sudanese British supermodel Alek Wek. In the same year, he was named Fashion Designer of the Year at the Arise Africa Fashion Awards. He continued this strong presence in 2010 – at precisely midnight he showcased his Butterfly collection at Africa Fashion Week, during the year of the football World Cup. He was hailed as the “King of Fashion in South Africa”.Brand went bigger in 2011And in 2011 the brand went even bigger. Tlale closed the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Braamfontein, Johannesburg to present his autumn 2011 Made in the City collection with 92 models showcasing his designs. Besides models, celebrities and sports personalities strutted his stuff across the iconic bridge in celebration of Madiba’s 92nd birthday.Later that year, the South African Mint approached Tlale to celebrate his Climate Change collection with a coin minted in his honour. Still that year, Tlale opened his first boutique in the Michaelangelo Towers in Sandton, Johannesburg. He now has another boutique in Cape Town. This year, he launched a handbag range that is now sold across the country. “We are growing as a brand, maturing. The competition is getting tougher but our signature is our strength,” he says.He will be participating in Africa Fashion Week in October, giving top clients a preview beforehand. And he is going to make his designs available in the United States. He has signed up an agency there, and will be looking for a showroom in New York in the near future. “The journey will just continue.”last_img read more

Training Your Prospect That You Will Go Away

first_imgIt’s easy to make one call to a prospective client each quarter, believing that your single attempt is prospecting. You can try again in another quarter, and there are more prospects to call, and in some cases, fresh leads continue to stream in. However, a single attempt to call your dream client is not prospecting, and more still, it is not an approach you can expect to produce results. When your attempt to get a meeting with your prospect is a single call followed by you disappearing for 90 days, you are training that prospect that ignoring you causes you to go away for a long time.Believing the Next One Will Be EasierIf you call five prospects and receive a voice mail, why do you believe the 6th prospect will be next to their phone and interested in speaking to you? It is never easy to reach people by phone or email, even though the odds of securing a meeting are far greater when you can speak to the person directly.Because it is never easy to get ear-to-ear with your prospective client, there is no evidence that the next call is going to make it any easier for you to get your prospect on the phone. If this is true, you need two things. First, you need a reason to keep prospecting. Second, you need a strategy.Undervaluing the Necessity of PersistenceYou need a lot of skills and attributes to succeed in sales (there are 17 in this book). One of the most important attributes is persistence, or determination, or intestinal fortitude, or grit, or some other term that describes your willingness to try again. Imagine the words that describe the opposite attribute, like “easily discouraged,” or “quick to give up,” or “little will to succeed,” and you understand why people who want what they want enough to persist tend to produce those results. The reason you need to keep calling—and more frequently than once a quarter—is because without a serious attempt to book time on their calendar, you are not going to get the meeting you want.Patient Professional PersistenceYou succeed at prospecting when you patiently, professionally persist in pursuing your dream client. Effective prospecting is a campaign, not a single event. You have to patient to get what you want, even though patient does not mean passive, reactive, or waiting for gifts to fall from the heavens. Patient, professional, persistence requires action. But not action that would make you a nuisance.Professional persistence means your campaign is built on the ideas you want to share with the contacts you are pursuing. It means you have some theory as to how they could produce a better results and how to get them there. When you have these big ideas and insights, you have to something to say when you call your prospect, when you leave a voice mail, and when you follow it with an email. You can make ever communication a deposit in your future relationship.Playing the Shortest of Short GamesA single call followed by you moving on without further attempts is the shortest of all short games. When you offer to go away for months or quarters (or longer), you project a lack of real interest, and you give your prospect and offer they can very easily accept, namely, avoiding a meeting with a salesperson who doesn’t really want their business.Play the long game and professionally persist instead of training your prospective client to ignore you.last_img read more

Samsung Galaxy M30 quick review: Take note because Super AMOLED display and 3 rear cameras at Rs 14,990

first_imgSamsung has begun 2019 with a bang. While the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Fold try to redefine flagship smartphones in 2019, Samsung has also changed its strategy in the budget segments. Last month, the company unveiled the Galaxy M series aimed at millennials. The Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 earned good reviews from critics as well as consumers. For the first time in the last few years, Samsung has been competitive with all the Chinese brands. Now, just before Xiaomi prepares to unveil the Redmi Note 7 series in India, Samsung has dropped the Galaxy M30.The Galaxy M30 sits above the Galaxy M20 in the 2019 M series and starts from Rs 14,990 for the base variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The other variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage comes for Rs 17,990. Demanding almost an additional Rs 2,000 over the M20, the Galaxy M30 promises an upgrade in the display and the camera department. The M30 ditches the LCD display and goes for Samsung’s highly acclaimed Super AMOLED display. Also, a new triple camera setup makes the Galaxy M30 the first phone in its class to offer a triple camera setup. These two major upgraded features make it an interesting proposition in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment. To see how it fares up, I spent some time during the launch of the Galaxy M30.Galaxy M30 design and displayIn 2019, we saw Samsung turn over a new leaf in the design department. Samsung finally ditched the outdated 18:9 Infinity display panels from the older models and made the move to notched displays. With the Galaxy M30, things get even better. Samsung has given the Galaxy M30 an Infinity-U display – the Infinity-U display offers a slightly smaller U-shaped notch instead of the slightly bigger V-shaped notch on the Galaxy M20. The bezels on the top and sides are fairly slim too. Sadly, the chin is noticeably thick but that’s okay considering the affordable pricing Samsung has adopted for the handset. As with all Super AMOLED screens, this one does impress with higher contrast and vibrant colours. However, wait for our final take on the display’s performance in our full review.advertisement Moving to the back, the Galaxy M30 carries over the glossy polycarbonate back from the Galaxy M20. However, instead of carrying a plain-jane single colour theme, the Galaxy M30 gets a gradient finish. I had my hands on the Gradation Blue variant in which the metallic blue colour slowly transitions into a darker shade of blue. This may not be as striking as Honor 8X or some other Oppo smartphones but it appeals to the eyes subtly and surely makes a statement for itself. I wouldn’t mind flaunting it in the public sans the case. There’s an oval-shaped fingerprint sensor and a triple camera setup arranged vertically. The middle sensor gets a unique halo decoration that does give the M30 a distinct appeal from the rear. The M30 goes for a seamless unibody design and that gives it a cleaner look. The curved edges also make it easy to hold. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack sitting at the bottom alongside a single loudspeaker. And the joy of joys – there’s a USB-C port. And it supports fast charging as well.Galaxy M30 specifications and performanceSamsung is also claiming an enhancement in performance with its new generation chips. The Galaxy M30 is running on the same Exynos 7904 octa-core chipset that underpowered the Galaxy M20. However, Samsung is offering up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Sadly, the Galaxy M30 is still running on Android 8.1 Oreo underneath Samsung Experience UI 9.5. Samsung assures that the M series phones will get the update to Android Pie but a 2019 smartphone should launch with Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. While I can’t gauge the long term performance now, the UI felt snappy and intuitive. Samsung has smeared the interface with a choice of colours and I have to say that it feels refreshing compared to a barebones stock Android UI. The bloat is limited as well.Galaxy M30 cameraThe Galaxy M30 is the first smartphone under Rs 20,000 to sport a triple camera setup. The Galaxy M30 gets a 13-megapixel primary camera alongside a 5-megapixel depth sensor and a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera. For selfies, there’s a 16-megapixel camera at the front with support for Live Focus (Samsung’s fancy term for portrait mode). At first glance, the camera performance seems better than what I have observed on the Galaxy M20. The wide-angle camera does help with unique shots, although the fish-eye effect feels exaggerated. Nonetheless, hold on to the detailed review of the Galaxy M30’s camera performance.advertisementGalaxy M30 batterySimilar to the Galaxy M20, the Galaxy M30 gets a huge 5000mAh battery, which comes with support for fast charging. On the Galaxy M20, the battery was able to deliver an entire day’s stamina under heavy usage. Based on my personal experience, the Galaxy M30 should offer an identical battery performance, given a slightly more power efficient Super AMOLED display.Galaxy M30 first impressions: Feels good to use a Samsung phone againThe Galaxy M30 seems to have gotten all the ingredients right on paper. Samsung has taken the strong foundations of the Galaxy M20 and added the essential bits that we asked for – a big AMOLED display and a triple camera setup. Starting at a price of Rs 14,990, the Galaxy M30 offers a highly compelling option. However, Xiaomi will unveil its Redmi Note 7 tomorrow and it remains to be seen how the Galaxy M30 can challenge Xiaomi’s bestseller in India.ALSO READ | Samsung Galaxy M30 launched in India: Triple cameras and Super AMOLED display at Rs 14,990ALSO READ | New Samsung Galaxy A series teased, to offer wide-angle camera, slow motion and fast chargingALSO READ | Samsung Galaxy A30, A50 quick review: Affordable mid-range phones that feel premiumlast_img read more
